Ohlone dominant in 3-0 victory

It's safe to say Ohlone Men's Soccer is off to a fast start.  With their win over Marin on Tuesday, they now move to 4-0-0 on the season and secure their third clean sheet in a row.

Ohlone controlled the game from the first whistle, never allowing Marin to get too comfortable.  They created opportunity after opportunity until finally opening the scoring late in the first half with a long-range shot by Freshman Angel Vasquez.  The second half was more of the same.  Ohlone pushed the lead to two when Sophomore Hugo Gallegos unselfishly set up Jose Pineda for a tap-in goal, and Angel Vasquez provided the cherry on top to another great game by him with his second goal in the final minute of the game.

During this four-game winning streak, there have been a few common threads to the Renegades' performances.  Sophomore goalkeeper Angel Munoz has been a vocal leader and proven challenging to score on, allowing only one goal against so far this season.  Sophomores Leonardo Menjivar and Hugo Gallegos have set the tone with their physicality and tireless work rate.  Eric Alvarado Nunez and Christopher Marquez Velez have been key additions to the starting lineup as Freshmen, bringing a calmness that was lacking in previous years.  And Angel Vasquez has proven to be a top-notch goal scorer, netting seven goals in the first four games of his collegiate career.

Things have clicked quickly for the relatively young group, and they look to keep their hot start alive later this week.

Ohlone hosts College of the Redwoods on Friday, September 5th, @ 4 pm.
