Courtney Owyang joined the Ohlone Volleyball program in 2019 as an assistant coach, bringing over seven years of competitive playing experience and a strong passion for player development to the Renegades. In 2022, she took over as the head coach and has recently led the team to an impressive 23-8 record, and making it to the second round of NorCal Regionals.

A standout athlete at American High School, Owyang was a four-time Coaches’ Award recipient, earned Most Valuable Player honors, and was named to the Mission Valley Athletic League All-League team. Her club career was equally extensive, competing for top programs.

Following her high school success, Owyang was recruited to play for the NCAA Division II program at California State University, East Bay, where she also began her coaching journey. At Tennyson High School, she led the varsity team to its first-ever NCS appearance in school history. In 2013, she returned to Lakas Volleyball Club as a coach, eventually becoming Club Director. Under her leadership, Lakas teams have earned multiple division championships, including the program’s first national bid to the AAU Nationals in Florida in 2022.

In recognition of her impact and leadership in the sport, Owyang was honored with the 2025 AVCA “30 Under 30” Award, a prestigious accolade celebrating the nation’s top up-and-coming coaches.

Dedicated to more than just winning, Owyang is passionate about building strong relationships with her athletes and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed on and off the court.
