Renegades Volleyball Takes The Court Once Again

Renegades Volleyball Takes The Court Once Again

525. That's the number of days since the Renegades Volleyball Team competed against another CCCAA program. But on April 28, 2021, 526 days since they last took the court against Las Positas College on November 19, 2019, the Renegades will once again step on the court in historic Epler Gymnasium to take on the Panthers of Hartnell College. The Panthers, who also have been sidelined since the COVID-19 Pandemic began, have also faced a similar timeline of returning to the court. Both teams have had less than two months of practice and prepare, and much of those months were no more than three days per week of practices. But despite the long lay off, decreased roster sizes, and the countless other challenges that each program has faced, the teams are finally ready to take the court in a competition setting. The last time these two teams faced each other, the Renegades came up on top in a thrilling five set win on November 1, 2019. The two teams split the season match up in 2019 with one win a peice, and the teams ended up tied in win/loss record in the Coast Conference North Division. "None of that matters now," said head coach Jeremy Penaflor. "All that matters is that our student-athletes are finally getting the opportunity to do what they love, and it's all because of their patience, hard work, and the hard work of the Ohlone College Athletics staff and college administration."

The first of two scrimmages is set for Wednesday, April 28, with first serve at 5pm. Instead of playing a best-of-five match, the teams have opted to play a match of five straight sets, no matter the outcome of each set. Visual scores will be kept but not recorded. The scrimmage will be live streamed on the Ohlone Volleyball YouTube channel, and the stream should begin minutes before the 5pm start time and appear on the Ohlone Volleyball YouTube channel automatically. If there are any updates to the live stream we will update this post with the appropriate links and directions to access it.
