Ohlone Falls in Familiar Fashion
Ohlone traveled to Aptos Friday evening to take on Cabrillo in another Coast Conference matchup.
In the midst of a six-game losing streak, the Renegades were looking for anything to jump-start their conference season. They got it in the fourth minute, courtesy of Hugo Gallegos. The sophomore jumped on a mistake made by the Cabrillo goalkeeper and finished the first chance of the game to give Ohlone a 1-0 lead. Energized from the early goal, the Renegades continued to push forward, receiving a penalty kick in the 18th minute and a great chance to take a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately for them, the penalty was missed, swinging the momentum to Cabrillo. Who capitalized just five minutes later by scoring their first goal of the game to tie it 1-1.
From there, Cabrillo took control of the game, scoring four more goals and eventually winning the game 5-1. This was a familiar story for Ohlone, having jumped out to an early lead against West Valley just a couple of games ago, only to watch the lead disappear and end in a convincing loss.
The Renegades fall to 7-7-1 on the season. Their record reflects two completely different halves of the year. Having finished 7-0-1 in Non-Conference games and now being 0-7-0 in Conference. Ohlone will have to find a way to compete with their conference opponents if they want any hope at making the playoffs.
Next up, they travel to San Francisco to take on CCSF.
