Ohlone College Men's Basketball Welcomes a New Team 2022-23
Ohlone College Men's Basketball begins its first season under new Head Coach Jordan Lee this week. Jordan Lee was hired in March and quickly brought in a trio of Assistant Coaches in Nate Millheim, Terrence Broussard, and Brandon Halal. The Ohlone College Renegades return only one player from last year's 2-25 campaign but bring in a plethora of exciting student-athletes who look to make an impact this year.
John Patague returns for his sophomore campaign as the lone returner by way of West HS in Tracy, CA. He is joined by sophomore transfers Jayelen Jones (Pacific University) and Josh Niusulu (Diablo Valley College) as the three veterans on the team. New to college basketball, Matthew Villanueva, Jonathan Powell, Jude Jennings, Khalid Elmi, Nebiyu Teklemariam, Michael Fastion, and Ryan Unkelbach are all eager to get started in their intercollegiate competition.
California Junior College Basketball expert and scout John Bynum of Signal the Light had this to say about the program,
"Coming into the new season, we had a chance to see Ohlone and it is evident that the Renegades will be a much improved team for the upcoming season. The culture is changing right before our eyes and although Ohlone only returns one player, it is apparent that we could see them finishing in the middle of the pack. The Renegades play hard and have one of the best players within the conference in Niusulu. Fastion gives them a force inside but they do lack frontline size and athleticism but with that being said they will be an improved team. Ohlone is a very dangerous team that you can not overlook and although we project them at 6th place this could be a team that could finish in the middle of the pack and beat some teams in the upper half of the conference because of the culture instilled by the coaching staff."
The Men's Basketball program starts its season on the road with three games at the annual 54th Gladiator Classic at Chabot College. Their first game is on Thursday, November 3rd at 4PM versus Diablo Valley College.
