Bio
Estefen Valdez enters his 3rd season in 2025-26 as a member of the Ohlone College Baseball coaching staff. Coach Valdez serves as the program's recruiting coordinator, outfielders coach, and is responsible for coaching First Base for the Renegades.
Coach Valdez has experience coaching with the Menlo Park Legends Summer Collegiate Team, NorCal Baseball, and locally at James Logan High School. Valdez displays an intense passion for the game, for developing players, and for recruiting. "Recruiting is such a huge responsbility for a championship level program," said Head Coach Mike Curran, "but he understands the expectations. He knows that for us to win, he needs to identify and bring in top level players. In just two years, he's brought in some great players. He understands that, to win, you must have top-level players. He's a great worker, a great person, and someone who enjoys pounding the pavement to find good players. We are better because of him." Coach Valdez is also excellent a building relationships with players. "He's very genuine and real, and players in today's age appreciate that." Several of Coach Valdez's recruits have been selected as All-COnference players in 2024 and '25, and several of them have moved on to NCAA Divsion I Baseball.
I regards to his on-field duties, Coach Curran remarks that "I may be a little unorthodox in that I really believe the first base coach has a huge role in a team’s offensive success – they need to be great communicators, know everything we are doing, know what our goal is for each situation. They need to be able to know when to push our guys and when we need to be smart and pump the breaks. And, they need to be vocal - you can lose games at first base if your coach is afraid to use his voice. I have a great level of comfort with him over there and I know our players appreciate his communication and help. Coach Stef is a big part of our success. We are blessed to have him.”
Coach Valdez is single and currently resides in Newark.
