No. 8 Renegades close West Valley series with 12-5 loss

FREMONT – Paul Wagner and Zach Dawson smashed home runs but No. 8 state-ranked Ohlone College couldn't capitalize on most of its scoring chances and suffered a 12-5 loss to No. 10 West Valley College on Saturday at home.

The loss closed out a Coast Conference South Division series that saw West Valley take all three games. The Renegades dropped the opener 13-7 at home on Tuesday and fell 6-1 in Saratoga on Thursday.

On Saturday, West Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and was up 6-1 after four innings.

Ohlone totaled 11 hits in the contest but left 12 runners on base. Wagner led the Renegades at the plate, going 3 for 5 including his two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Dawson's solo blast came in the bottom of the ninth. Tucket Biehl smacked a double as part of a 2 for 5 effort.

The series finale loss dropped Ohlone to 28-7 overall and 11-4 in Coast Conference play. Prior to the Game 1 defeat to West Valley, the Renegades had won 11 straight.

Ohlone will look to snap the three-game losing streak on Tuesday (Apr. 15) when the Renegades travel to Gavilan College for a 2:30 p.m. Coast Conference South Division game.
